Hair extensions can instantly add volume and length to your look. To keep your extensions beautiful and healthy for a long time, it is important to look after them properly. Here are some basic care tips to help you get the most out of your hair extensions:
Do not use products containing silicone, oil, fruit acids, or alcohol. Never wash your hair with your head upside down. Wash your hair only at the roots, since the ends are usually not oily and may otherwise dry out. Apply hair treatment exclusively to the lengths and ends, keeping a sufficient distance from the roots.
Always blow-dry your hair until it's completely dry; never comb it while it's wet. Don't use the dryer on the highest heat setting, and don't blow-dry with your head upside down. Always blow-dry the hair at the attachment points until they're completely dry. Never rub your hair extensions dry—instead, gently squeeze out the excess water.
Regularly apply a high-quality hair oil to the ends of your hair and use a hair mask once a week. Comb your hair only with extension brushes. Use shampoo and styling products that do NOT contain silicones or oils. Do not go to bed with wet hair. Do not style your hair at temperatures above 180°C.
Avoid silver shampoo. The extensions absorb it more quickly and more intensely than your natural hair.
Tip: Test it on a single strand first. Mix the silver shampoo with your extension shampoo.
Avoid salt water and chlorinated water. Tie your hair back to protect it, and consider applying a conditioning treatment to the ends for extra protection. Be careful with sunscreen and self-tanners, as they can discolor your hair.
